New Zealand Maori Showing Respect on Armistice Day

The New Zealand Maori team observed Armistice Day whilst in Cardiff.

Sam Gemmell, served in WWI.

On Armistice Day the Maoris were in Cardiff, and were invited to attend a service held by the Welsh Regiment at their Barracks in Cardiff. The service. a very impressive one, was conducted at the Monument erected to the memory of the men of the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the Regiment who fell in the Great War. After the service the Manager (Mr W. T Parata), accompanied by W. P. Barclay (captain), R. J. Bell (vice-captain), S. Gemmell, P. Heupapa and Rev. P. Matene, placed a wreath on the monument. Barclay, Gemmell, and Haupapa, were, of course, members of the Maori Pioneer Battalion.
