David Kirk Museum’s New Patron

Former All Blacks captain, Rhodes Scholar, and business leader, David Kirk MBE, has been appointed Patron of the New Zealand Rugby Museum.  David brings a wealth of business expertise, his rugby pedigree is well-known, and extensive governance experience make him an ideal person to hold this role. Following the death of Sir Brian Lochore in 2019 the museum had been canvassing options for a suitable replacement to sit alongside NZRM President Dr Farah Palmer.

The Annual General Meeting of the Rugby Museum Society of New Zealand Inc. was held on Tuesday 28 April via ZOOM due to Covid-19 restrictions.  The nomination of David as patron was approved and supported unanimously by the meeting members.

Upon hearing his appointment David said he was “honoured and delighted”.

In other meeting news the Honourable Treasure, Neil Monro, reported a small surplus of approx. $24,000 for 2019.

Chairperson, Clive Akers confirmed the reappointments of Neil Monro and Trish Arnold as Secretary.

Grant Smith, Mayor of Palmerston North, attended the meeting and thanked the museum for its fine year in 2019. He said the museum was a great visitor attraction that the city valued and that the city would look to support the museum, if possible, through the Covid-19 crisis.
