Invincible

All Blacks

 exhibition

The rugby museum opened a temporary exhibition about the “Invincibles” on 17 July 2024.  It was the culmination of many months work and a small ceremony was held to mark the occasion.

The opening was attended by Mayor Grant Smith, former All Blacks Neven MacEwan and Stuart Freebairn with members of their families, members of the Palmerston North Rotary club and a large number of volunteers.

2024 marks one hundred years since the All Blacks tour of Great Britain, Ireland, France and Canada.   32 games played and 32 games won!

Players became household names, their deeds legendary.

The exhibition covers the organising of the tour and selecting of the players.  Key contributors such as manager Stan Dean and captain Cliff Porter.  Stand out players such as George Nepia, the 19 year old fullback, and Bert Cooke the dynamic try-scorer.

Controversial moments such as the sending off of Cyril Brownlie in the English Test, and the later try by his brother Maurice Brownlie.

Objects featured in the exhibition include two All Blacks jerseys, a blazer, and cap. Jerseys of Irish, Welsh and English opponents.  Plus dozens of action photos and the silver cup presented to the team by Edward Prince of Wales.

The exhibition will be in the Palmerston North rugby museum gallery until late 2025.
