February 6 - 1936 NZ Universities in Tokyo
A depleted N Z Universities defeated Waseda University 22-17. Despite a heavy field it turned out to be a good game of rugby.
“6/2/36
Owing to sickness, team altered considerably. Gillies replaced by Jones, Stace replaced by Eade, Simmers replaced by Hudson. Every available man is playing. Match a very exciting one in spite of the heavy field. Final score 22 – 17. McAuliffe and Parsons played very sound games. Scorers; Jones, Watt, Laney, Thomas, McAuliffe and Wilson. Bush converted 2 tries. Brilliant try by Watt who ran 3/4 of length of field evading tacklers all the way was the feature of the days play.”
